The Hamptons - Ilfracombe Devon
This lovely family-run North Devon hotel
is housed in a Victorian Villa overlooking
the coastline and 5 minutes walk from tunnels
beaches. Just above the hotel is the goregous
National Trust Coastal path. In a previous
life, the hotel's owner, Janine Powell,
taught interior design at university level,
and her touch is evident in all seven classic-comptempory
bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own special
feature - one has a roll top bath, another
a wonderful mahogany bed and indulgent,
tactile cushions and bed throws. This summer,
Powell launches a series of weekend courses
in interior design at the hotel.
Exeter Echo - August 2009
Whether you want to surf, play golf or just
explore, there is plenty to do in and around
Ilfracombe, a coastal town described as
the gateway to North Devon. The Hamptons,
Ilfracombe boasts sweeping views over the
town and stunning interiors, is more luxurious
than your average bed and breakfast accommodation.
Bath
Magazine - May 2009
Ilfracombe in North Devon not only has a
spectacular natural setting: the town is
well and truly on the way up. Damien Hirst's
restaurant at The Quay has a sparked a restaurant
renaissance, "with a string of boutique hotels" in Torrs Park - a Victorian residential
development reminiscent of Pulteney and
Lansdown Roads - is making it the top choice
for discerning visitors. We opted to stay
at The Hamptons Hotel in Torrs Park. In
addition to offering superb views over the
town and out to sea - and a splendid breakfast
- it was only a couple of minutes from the
start of the walk.
Bath Life August 2008
Ifracool - From families to young couples
will enjoy both the hotel and the town itself
- The Hamptons has put ilfracombe back on
the map. Testament to its new trendy reputation,
several boutique hotels and B&Bs have
began popping up, particularly in the popular
area of Torrs Park, a street lined with
imposing Victorian villas and reportedly
home to North Devon's coolest resident Damin
Hirst. The newest, The Hamptons owned by
Paul and Janine Powell has already attracted
a whole new crowd to the town. With the
luxury of a hotel, but with the freedom
of a B&B, this seemes the ideal base
to explore the area.
