The Hamptons - Ilfracombe Devon
This lovely family-run North Devon hotel is housed in a Victorian Villa overlooking the coastline and 5 minutes walk from tunnels beaches. Just above the hotel is the goregous National Trust Coastal path. In a previous life, the hotel's owner, Janine Powell, taught interior design at university level, and her touch is evident in all seven classic-comptempory bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own special feature - one has a roll top bath, another a wonderful mahogany bed and indulgent, tactile cushions and bed throws. This summer, Powell launches a series of weekend courses in interior design at the hotel.

We opted to stay at The Hamptons Hotel in Torrs Park. In addition to offering superb views over the town and out to sea - and a splendid breakfast - it was only a couple of minutes from the start of the walk.
